The Angels are an awesome 14-4 on the road this season and aim to continue their stellar play away from home as they embark on a 10-game road trip. Los Angeles concluded a disappointing 11-game home-stand with just four wins, including Sunday’s 5-2 victory over Tampa Bay that ended a streak of five straight losses. Mike Trout answered an uncharacteristic 0-for-15 skid with a solid three-game stretch that features three hits–including two home runs–and three RBIs while also four runs scored. Outfielder Kole Calhoun is 2-for-21 in his last eight games to drop his batting average to a career-worst .161.
Left-hander Tyler Skaggs (3-3, 2.88 ERA) is taking the mound for Los Angeles on Wednesday. Skaggs has been extremely consistent this season, with only one poor start in nine appearances (six runs allowed in 4.1 innings against Boston on April 18). He has otherwise given up no more than two runs on any occasion and has worked at least 5.0 innings seven times. The 26-year-old most recently faced Tampa Bay last Thursday, when he logged 6.0 innings and allowed only one run on six hits and three walks while striking out seven batters. Due mostly to some awful bullpen performances, the Angels are 0-4 in in Skaggs’ last four outings.

Skaggs has been consistently effective for the Angels this season. Offensively, meanwhile, Trout appears to be back on track. That combination should help L.A. maintain its incredible road form. Los Angeles is 14-6 in its last 20 against starters with WHIPs over 1.30, 14-3 in its last 17 on the road, 7-0 in its last seven on the road against losing opponents, 8-1 in its last nine on the road against opponents with losing home records, and 10-2 in its last 12 on the road against right-handed starters. The Blue Jays are 0-4 in their last four overall, 0-6 in their last six at home, 0-4 in their last four against left-handed starters, 0-5 in their last five against the American League West, 3-7 in Sanchez’s last 10 starts, 1-5 in his last six home starts, and 1-4 in their last five at home against the Angels. Don’t be surprised if those trends continue.

If the Blue Jays faithful isn’t already frustrated with designated hitter Kendrys Morales, hitting a team-low .154 with three home runs and 10 RBIs, the arrival of Khris Davis could rub salt in the wound. Oakland’s DH leads his club with 12 home runs and 36 RBIs, despite a .218 average.
NEED TO KNOW
Joe Biagini will make another start for the Jays with Marcus Stroman on the disabled list with shoulder weakness. Biagini has gone a total of 14 2/3 innings in three MLB starts this season, and is winless in 2018 in the majors and Triple-A … Oakland’s Anderson, who j made seven starts for the Blue Jays down the stretch last season, signed a minor-league deal with the A’s in late March … Oakland backup catcher Bruce Maxwell is not allowed to enter Canada, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, after being charged with disorderly conduct and aggravated assault last year. Maxwell plans to plead guilty to disorderly conduct, but can’t cross the border because he hasn’t been sentenced.

While the Angels have struggled at times at the plate and on the mound, the one consistentency throughout the 2018 has been the play of Shohei Ohtani. Yeah, we talk about him a lot here. Though he won't pitch in Toronto (we'll save his arm for the Big Apple), Ohtani will likely be in the lineup as the Angels' DH each game of the series. Through 24 games and 84 at-bats, Ohtani has 5 doubles, 6 home runs and 18 RBI. Expect his bat to make some noise north of the border.

With the way the NRL is moving forward in promoting the women's game with the announcement of the NRL Holden Women's Premiership, Mitchell says it was essential for the sport to showcase the talent of both their men and women that participate at an elite level.

"There's a team for both genders, each club participating has an elite level female and an elite level male team and that's the beauty of the touch offering is the participation base.

If, god help you, you stayed late up for this one you got to see Joey Gallo hit an oppo home run and the Rangers score a bunch of runs. Unfortunately, the defense and pitching crapped right on the bed you were surely longing to climb into.
Mike Minor lasted all of 3 13 innings after allowing six runs despite Texas staking him to a 3-1 lead. The Rangers did make it interesting and even battled back to lead 7-6 heading into the bottom of the eighth until the Mariners mustered rallies against a wild Jose Leclerc and — after Texas tied it in the ninth — secured a winner off Alex Claudio to walk it off in the second free frame.
Sleep will be restless, if it comes at all.
Player of the GameRobinson Chirinos had a nice night at the plate going 3-for-4 with a walk and three runs batted in.
Up Next: The Rangers and Mariners conclude this very brief and pointless series with Bartolo Colon set to make the start for Texas against TBD for Seattle. Colby Lewis will be on the broadcast that you can only watch on Facebook starting at 2:40 pm CT.

The Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners meet Wednesday in MLB action at
The Texas Rangers could use a victory here after losing seven of their last 10 games. The Rangers have allowed 21 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in 12 of their last 13 games. The Texas Rangers have lost seven of their last nine games when allowing at least one run. Offensively, Nomar Mazara leads the Rangers with 44 hits and 26 RBI while Shin-Soo Choo and Adrian Beltre have combined for 71 hits and 27 RBI. Bartolo Colon gets the ball, and he is 1-1 with a 3.32 ERA and 29 strikeouts this season. Colon is 20-12 with a 3.89 ERA and 164 strikeouts in his career against the Mariners.

Saturday evening on the MLB Diamond and a pair of teams from the American League West will square off as the Seattle Mariners duke it out with the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Park in Arlington in Arlington, Texas in game two of their three-game series. The Mariners took 11 of the 19 meetings between these teams last year. Pitching Probables: The Mariners will be sending out James Paxton (1-1, 4.57 ERA) in this one and he will be opposed by Bartolo Colon (0-0, 1.45 ERA).

Mariners Got Blasted By The Astros

Well, they got blasted in the final three games of that series anyway. The Mariners took game one of that series by a score of 2-1, but the final three games were a totally different story as they lost all three games and were outscored 20-4 in the three games. That offense for the Mariners has really been struggling of late as they will enter Friday night’s game having scored a total of seven runs over their last five games. That was on the heels of averaging 7.25 rpg over their previous four games. They will look to get their offense going in this series against a rather poor Texas pitching staff. In the finale against the Astros, they lost by a score of 9-2 and getting the loss in the game was Marco Gonzales, who allowed three runs (none earned) on four hits and a walk in 4.2 innings of work. He is now 1-2 with a 5.94 ERA on the year. Wade LeBlanc had a bad showing from the pen as he allowed four ERs on five hits and two walks in just 2.0 innings of work. They hope to have better pitching in this series against a struggling Texas offense
The various projection systems give the Mariners a 15% to 33% chance of making the playoffs right now—FanGraphs is the low mark and FiveThirtyEight is the most optimistic. Maybe it’s still too early to talk about playoff odds but we’re about a quarter of the way through the season so now is as good a time as any to take stock of the Mariners position. The offense has posted the second best league adjusted mark in the American League and fifth best overall. Mitch Hanigerand Ryon Healy have been carrying the offense, like we all predicted. Even if those two slump a little, Kyle Seager and Nelson Cruz really haven’t hit their stride yet.
The pitching staff is still a bit of a mess but they’ve been better than they appear. Over the last 30 days, the Mariners have posted the 8th best league adjusted FIP in the majors. Despite a couple of meltdowns by Juan Nicasio, the bullpen has been excellent thanks to standout performances by James Pazos and Erik Goeddel. Even the starting pitching has been better than league average this past month, posting the seventh highest strikeout-to-walk ratio in the majors. They’ll need to call someone up to make a spot start on Wednesday. Rob Whalen or Christian Bergman are probably the most likely candidates.
Since the last time these two teams met, the Rangers have gone 8-11 and fallen further into the cellar in the AL West. They aren’t as starved for young talent as the Tigers are, but it’s clear they need to spend this season retooling their roster. All their bad injury luck isn’t helping matters either

The Texas Rangers and the Seattle Mariners meet in game one of a three game AL West division showdown from Safeco Field in MLB action on Tuesday.
The Texas Rangers will look to rebound after losing their series with the division leading Astros, dropping the final two games of the series on Saturday and Sunday by an identical 6-1 score line. In Sunday’s defeat. Carlos Perez’s solo homer was the only run Texas would score and was Perez’s first dinger of the season. Shin-Soo Choo went 2 for 4 and Jurickson Profar added a double while Adrian Beltre and Rougned Odor each chipped in base hits as well to round out the offense for Texas in the loss. Matt Moore took the loss, falling to 1-5 this season after allowing three runs on six hits while walking three and striking out five over just three innings of work. Mike Minor will start the series opener and is 3-2 with a 4.72 ERA and 32 strikeouts this season. In his career, Minor is 1-1 with a 1.65 ERA and 20 strikeouts against Seattle

The Rangers travel up to Seattle after dropping two of three in Houston to their in-state rivals. On Sunday they lost 6-1 as they struggled to touch Dallas Keuchel while Matt Moore had to exit after three innings. Their only run came on a solo shot from catcher Carlos Perez.
Seattle have alternated wins and losses throughout May, and last time out on Monday was their time to win in a make-up game against the Twins. The 1-0 win was thanks to a throwing error from Logan Morrison which allowed Dee Gordon to score at the top of the eighth and break the deadlock.

Mike Minor (LHP) Vs Mike Leake (RHP)

Minor’s season looks like it has been awful, with his 4.73 ERA in seven starts, but in fact he has just been frustratingly inconsistent and unlucky. He has had some quality outings, including against the likes of Toronto and these Mariners, while getting tagged by the Astros and then giving up homers last time out against the Tigers.
His 1.20 WHIP and good walk rate (2.0 BB/9) suggest he can bring the runs down to earth, as long as he can limit the long ball.
Mike Leake’s 2018 has been horrible. He was blasted by the Chicago White Sox of all teams which has hammered his ERA, but at 5.72 it is more than just one start. He has not allowed fewer than two runs in any start, and four or more in three. That, plus a high hit rate and a poor strikeout rate, makes it unlikely to ever really turnaround.Stay up to date on results for The Rangers travel up to Seattle after dropping two of three in Houston to their in-state rivals. Well, that’s over. After splitting a two-game set with the Chicago Cubs, the Cleveland Indianscontinue their home stand with a four-game set against the Seattle Mariners, the team they began the season with.

Looking ahead

After finishing up with the Mariners, the Indians will welcome the Texas Rangers for a three-game set to end April and begin May. Then, on what should be an off-day, the Tribe will make up two games against the Toronto Blue Jays in a double-header. For the Mariners, after finishing up at Progressive Field, they will head back west to welcome the Oakland Athletics and the Los Angeles Angels to Safeco Field, each for three games.

Pitching matchups

Thursday, April 26 6:10 p.m. ET: James Paxton (LHP) v. Mike Clevinger (RHP)
The last time the Indians saw James Paxton (on March 31), they tattooed him for six runs thanks to a pair of home runs and four walks. Paxton didn’t make it out of the fifth inning in that game. Since then, he hasn’t really fared much better. This season as a whole, Paxton has thrown 25.2 innings and has allowed 16 earned runs while walking 12 and striking out 34 (which translates to an ERA+ of 73). His most recent start came on April 21 against the Texas Rangers; in that game, Paxton went just 4.0 innings and allowed five earned runs on six hits while walking three and striking out six. With Paxton and Felix Hernandez both off to bad starts this season, the Mariners are in trouble.

Mike Clevinger and Trevor Bauer continue to battle for the number three role on the Cleveland pitching staff, and, so far, Clevinger is winning that battle this season. In the 25.2 innings he’s pitched (oddly, the same amount as James Paxton), he’s allowed just five earned runs while walking eight and striking out 17 (which translates to an ERA+ of 252). His most recent start, on April 21 against the Orioles, was the best yet in his career. In that game, Clevinger pitched his first complete game shutout, allowing just two hits and walking three while striking out two.
Friday, April 27 7:10 p.m. ET: Erasmo Ramirez (RHP) v. Corey Kluber (RHP)
Erasmo Ramirez had started the season in Triple-A on a rehab assignment after being on the DL with a right shoulder-latissimus dorsi strain. He was called back up on April 22 and has only made one start so far this season. He was moved midway through last season from Tampa Bay to Seattle and pitched much better once he got in a Mariners uniform. Overall, in 2017, Ramirez had a somewhat down year. In the 131.1 innings he pitched, he allowed 64 earned runs while walking 31 and striking out 109 (which translates to an ERA+ of 96). His first start this season came on April 22, and it was not a good one; against the Rangers, Ramirez went 4.2 innings and allowed five earned runs on five hits while walking one and striking out one.
Yeah, I’ll say it: Corey Kluber is on the decline. He had his worst start of the year last time out and his ERA jumped 0.44 points. 0.44! If he continues doing that, his ERA will be around 57 by the time the season is over. Sure, it’s 1.96 now, but what kind of “ace” gives up three whole runs in a game? Never mind the fact that Kluber is off to his absolute best start to a season ever by all measurable stats; the last time he pitched against the Mariners, he couldn’t even prevent them from scoring runs. Also, he didn’t get any hits himself. Can’t rely on everyone to do everything for you, can you, Corey? In previous years, Kluber has pitched over 200 innings; this season, he’s only pitched in 36.2 (that’s not even close to 200) and has allowed a whopping eight runs while walking six (if they had all come back to back, that’s two runs right there! For free!) and striking out just 37 (which translates to an ERA+ of 224; Mike Clevinger is laughing at you, Corey). Oh, and that worst start I talked about above? On April 22 against the Orioles, Kluber got absolutely shellacked for seven innings and gave up three runs (that’s 37.5 percent of all the runs he’s given up all year) on six hits while walking no one (rude) and striking out four. Sure, by baseball standards, Corey Kluber pitched a “quality start”, but what’s so “quality” about giving up two home runs to Manny Machado, a dude so bad he probably won’t even be with the Orioles by the end of July?
